10th GAMM Juniors Summer School:
Model Order Reduction (MOR)
Date: July 21-25, 2025
The Summer Schools on Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (SAMMs) are organized by the GAMM Juniors, i.e. the representatives of young researchers within the GAMM. All important information regarding the event and the registration can be found by clicking on the content toggles below.
Keywords: Interpolatory MOR, data-driven interpolants, non-intrusive MOR, neural networks, component mode synthesis, substructuring, dynamical systems
Target group
The summer school addresses young researchers from mathematics and engineering who are already working in the field of model order reduction or are interested in this field. It is primarily meant for PhD students, but also Master students or PostDocs are very welcome. In the spirit of GAMM, we explicitly encourage people from both mathematics and engineering to participate.
When?
July 21-25, 2025
What?
Model order reduction (MOR) is a pivotal tool in the efficient simulation and control of complex systems, enabling the simplification of high-dimensional models while retaining essential system characteristics. The SAMM summer school 2025 offers PhD students and young scientists an in-depth exploration of MOR, providing insights into its mathematical foundations as well as its use in the simulation of systems within mechanics and other current research topics. Four renowned speakers from the field (Peter Benner, Margarita Chasapi, Paolo Tiso, Benjamin Unger) will highlight different aspects of MOR in mathematics and mechanics in four mini-courses and hands-on coding tutorials. After an introduction to classical interpolatory model reduction and data-driven interpolants of control systems, current developments on non-intrusive MOR based on deep neural networks are discussed. Complementing these mathematical insights, the program also features specialized mini-courses on applications such as component mode synthesis and substructuring, specifically tailored for the reduction of nonlinear dynamical systems and reduced basis methods in computational mechanics. A social program will complement the summer school to encourage exchange among young researchers working on or interested in MOR.

The summer school will be on-site at TU Dresden in Germany.
