Philipp Kinon is a PhD student and research assistant at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), at the Institute of Mechanics, under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Peter Betsch. Philipp obtained a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at KIT in 2017 and received his Master’s degree in “Modeling and Simulation in Engineering Structures” in 2021.
The corresponding Master’s thesis dealt with a novel variational formulation for multibody systems (MBS) with holonomic constraints. This research led to the derivation of various geometric integration methods, including both variational integrators and an Energy-Momentum scheme.
Initially trained in numerical methods for classical continuum and structural dynamics, Philipp has since expanded his research scope to include the modeling and simulation of port-Hamiltonian systems (PHS). Philipp’s work both in MBS and PHS targets spatial and temporal structure-preserving discretization techniques.
