Fabian Castelli

Fabian Castelli obtained his M.Sc. in Mathematics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2016. After graduation, he started his PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Willy Dörfler at KIT. In 2021 he defended his PhD thesis, which focuses on adaptive finite element solvers for Cahn-Hilliard-type phase field models for electrode particles of lithium-ion batteries. His work was funded by the DFG through research training group GRK 2218: SIMET – Simulation mechano-electro-thermal processes in lithium-ion batteries.

As postdoctoral researcher in the second generation of SiMET, he joined the group of Prof. Thomas Wetzel at KIT in 2021. His research interest is the design and implementation of adaptive solution algorithms. Furthermore, he worked on efficient finite element solvers for coupled battery models and contributed to the open-source finite element library deal.II. Since March 2023 he is a scientific employee at Fraunhofer ITWM in Kaiserslautern.
