Julian Berberich received the Master’s degree in Engineering Cybernetics from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 2018. In 2022, he defended his PhD in mechanical engineering, which he pursued at the University of Stuttgart under supervision of Prof. Frank Allgöwer. He is currently working as a Lecturer (akademischer Rat) at the Institute for Systems Theory and Automatic Control at the University of Stuttgart. In 2022, he was a visiting researcher at ETH Zürich, Switzerland.
He has received the Outstanding Student Paper Award at the 59th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control in 2020 and the 2022 George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award for an outstanding paper published in IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control.
Julian’s research interests are centered around systems and control theory with a focus on
- data-driven and learning-based control: deriving theoretical guarantees for the closed loop, also in the presence of noisy data or nonlinearities
- quantum computing through the lens of control theory: studying robustness of quantum algorithms
