Josie König studied mathematics at TU Chemnitz, where she earned her M.Sc. in 2021. Her master’s thesis focused on using tensor decompositions for effective Gaussian process regression. In 2022, she joined the SFB 1294 — Data Assimilation at the University of Potsdam, where she currently works under the supervision of Prof. Melina Freitag. Her research lies at the intersection of systems and control theory and Bayesian inference. She aims to understand how system-theoretic model order reduction can be used to develop efficient computational methods for data assimilation. In 2026, she submitted her Ph.D. thesis on balancing-based model order reduction in Bayesian inference and data assimilation. Josie received a Fulbright Visiting Student Researcher Grant and worked with Prof. Elizabeth Qian at Georgia Tech during the Fall 2024 semester.
