Once again this year, the GAMM Juniors held their summer school. Young researchers in the fields of mathematics and mechanics gathered for the event from August 24–28, 2026, at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Essen Campus. This year’s focus was on “Multiscale Modeling and Homogenization”.

The four speakers provided fascinating insights from various perspectives:

• Prof. Markus Gahn (Augsburg University):
  Multi-scale analysis for perforated domains and derivation of the Darcy law
• Prof. Barbara Verfürth (University of Bonn):
  Numerical homogenization methods and their application for wave propagation
• Prof. Matti Schneider (University of Duisburg-Essen):
  FFT-based homogenization; Geometric microstructure modeling
• Prof. Ralf Jänicke (TU Braunschweig):
  Variational consistent Computational Homogenization

To cap off the event, a short computer exercise was also conducted to allow participants to apply what they had learned.

In addition to this scientific program, participants had ample opportunity to get to know the other attendees as well as explore the city of Essen and its landmarks. The week began with a small reception that encouraged participants to get to know one another, exchange ideas, and network. The evening continued with a group dinner in the city’s nightlife district, followed by a tour of the Zeche Zollverein on Thursday.

All in all, a successful week! Many thanks to all the speakers and participants for an informative and exciting time. SAMM 2026 was organized by the (former) GAMM Juniors Jonas Heinzmann, Sonja Hellebrand, Georgia Kikis, Dominik Klein, Richard Schussnig, Jendrik-Alexander Tröger and David Wiedemann.
